As lock down continues in varying degrees across Australia, future proposers need inspiration in every form. As luck would have it, we’ve curated a list of the top spots in Northern Territory for popping the question. The top end has a plethora of unspoiled locations just begging for a bent knee. Even if you aren’t currently able to travel to NT for your dream engagement, have a pen ready because you’ll want to take notes.
Lonely Beach, East Arnhem Land
This spectacular beach is nestled in the homeland of Bawaka. Lonely Beach is the star of the show when it comes to beaches in East Arnhem Land. It features two stunning beaches that meet at a rocky islet. Atop the small island you can spot the endless marine life that inhabit the surrounding shorelines. As the island is only accessible via a guided 4WD tour by Lirrwi Tourism, it means you will have a romantic, secluded location to pop the question.
Hot air balloon, Alice Springs
There is no better way to soak up Northern Territories vast landscape than a peaceful hot air balloon flight over Alice Springs. Catch the sunrise take off for an epic view of the red dessert. Afterwards, sit back and enjoy the serenity with a sparkling wine and light refreshments with your special someone.
Uluru, Northern Territory
In the heart of Australia’s red centre lies Uluru, an impressive sandstone rock formation which was formed around 550 million years ago. The breathtaking land formation can be seen from space, and is the world’s largest sandstone monolith. If you are after a truly lavish proposal experience, book a stay at one of Longitude 131’s 15 luxury tents. The retreat is blessed with views of not only Uluru, but also a unique rock formation colloquially known as The Olgas.
Matarank Thermal Pools
Relax in the crystal waters of Bitter Springs thermal pools for a magical day with your partner. Despite the name, the springs offer a truly extraordinary experience, where you can snorkel through the shimmering teal water alongside turtles and other wildlife. Make sure to take a camera to capture the special moment backdropped by the beautiful palm-fringed waterhole.
Pat’s Lookout, Katherine Gorge
Yet another gorgeous nature spot makes the list of NT’s best proposal spots. The beautiful waterfall location will instil a sense of tranquillity to alleviate any pre-proposal nerves. Pack a picnic of all your partner’s favourite treats and spend the day by the cool, refreshing water of the Nitmiluk National Park’s Southern Rockhole.
Aboriginal rock art galleries, Ubirr, Kakadu National Park
If the above spectacular natural landscapes aren’t quite what you’re looking for, Ubirr, located in Kakadu National Park is home to an array of culturally significant aboriginal rock art works some of which are 20,000 years old. At sunset, walk up to the lookout for sweeping views of the surrounding floodplains providing the perfect backdrop for a magical proposal.
